Residents of the United Arab Emirates will be able to use their Emirates ID as a residence document starting today, April 11. It takes the place of passport-stamped resident visa stickers. The No UAE visa stamping required on passports rule saves individuals a lot hassle.
Residents will no longer need to go through two separate visa and Emirates ID processes for new or renewed residency applications starting tomorrow. The entire procedure can be completed in a single application. Furthermore, applicants will not be required to leave their passports at immigration offices for the purpose of visa stamping.
Why Did This Rule Come Into Effect?
Following in-depth research, the decision was made to reduce the number of steps required to issue residency documents.
The Emirates ID, which was recently upgraded, now includes all important residency-related information that was previously only available on the visa sticker. The new version of Emirates ID uses an e-link system to store personal and professional data, as well as the issuing entity and other readable data.
The residency sticker will be available only via the authority’s app. In addition, persons can acquire their residency information in a printed format with a stamp from the authority in three steps. This can be done using the app or through the website (www.icp.gov.ae)
The ICP has worked with all relevant stakeholders in the aviation industry to keep them up to date on the latest residency-related developments. Officials can use a passport reader to check the status of people from outside the UAE.
