Want to know how we’ll be travelling in the next few decades? Holographic aircraft and interactive experiences await Expo visitors.
Each visitor to the Emirates Pavilion will be given their own ‘seed’. As they move through the site, they will interact with various installations – these will be captured on the ‘seed’ and stored for playback, revealing their own unique journey in a stunning 360-degree multi-sensory film.
Visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai will be able to explore the future of travel in the Emirates Pavilion – think navigating a virtual fuselage’s interactive windows on a faster, lighter aircraft without windows; noise cancelling sound shrouds; and automated trolleys.
Working with academics and its industry partners in aviation and aerospace, Emirates is creating exciting experiences to demonstrate the future of aviation, and is currently finalising the building’s structure.
“The concepts we’re showcasing aim to inspire and inform visitors of the many revolutionary and sustainability-driven breakthroughs that the commercial aviation industry has achieved and continues to develop,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group.
“The interactive experiences will allow visitors to experiment with advanced airframes, propulsion systems, futuristic fuselages, and ultramodern composite materials. Much like Expo 2020 Dubai itself, the Emirates Pavilion’s visitors will leave with a sense that the spirit of creativity, innovation and technological progress will help us leap into a better future.”
Meanwhile, animations using holographic models of futuristic aircraft will bring to life aeronautical science and explain how aircraft achieve flight, while the ‘Cleaner Skies’ installation offers an immersive experience that highlights key sustainability issues.
Aviation and tech geeks will be able to test technologies and participate in experiments carried out by robotic arms, and experiment with composite materials, 4D printing, biomimetics (the field of systems that mimic biological processes), generative design and self-healing materials.
Visitors can also design and fly their own futuristic aircraft, using an ultra-haptic interface and running it through a flight simulator. Large holographic screens will provide instant feedback on their design decisions throughout the process.
Emirates will also visualise the airport of the future so visitors can learn how biometrics, data analytics and smart technologies will transform the passenger experience on the ground. Frictionless customs and security systems, innovation in baggage handling, electric-powered transportation and smart waste-management systems will all be explored.
